Local Business Owner Puts Eco-Friendly New Spin on the Vinyl Record

Vinylux is putting a new kind of spin on the vinyl record. The brainchild of owner/artist Jeff Davis, the company transforms the records into new functional art pieces, mindful to use environmentally friendly practices and refusing to waste any part of the original album. Vinyls from record shops, dealers, collectors, and even people’s attics take on new lives as LP record mirrors, frames, cuff jewelry, clocks, bowls, and journals. The album covers are used as sketchbook covers and attention-grabbing coasters.

Davis, who launched Vinylux in 2003 out of a rented space in Brooklyn, packed his family up and headed to Philadelphia- where affordability and the real estate knowledge of Christopher Plant enabled him to purchase residential workspace in East Germantown. Over a decade later, he has been able to expand his company and hire full and part time additional employees. His story is a great example of how a business can truly have the chance to flourish and grow into something awesome… right here in Philly.
